Bank of Communications, abbreviated as BOCOM, is one of the oldest banks in China, founded in 1908 (the 34th year of Guangxu's reign). It was one of the early note-issuing banks in China and one of the four major banks during the Nationalist government period (early China). It is the fifth largest bank in mainland China, the first nationwide state-owned commercial bank in China, and one of the 'Seven Banks and Five Insurance Companies' (formerly known as 'Six Banks and Three Insurance Companies', and 'Five Banks and Three Insurance Companies') of Hong Kong's Chinese-funded financial stocks.
